Anyone interested or involved in economic development should make plans to attend the Southern Miss New South Economic Development Course (NSEDC) set for Sept. 19-24 at the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship on the Hattiesburg campus.

The NSEDC is an extensive training session that features both classroom learning and hands-on case studies. Participants will be exposed to the tactics, techniques and strategies associated with effective economic development from the business, developer and public perspectives.

“Participants in the New South Economic Development Course are exposed to all aspects of economic development,” said Dr. Brian Richard, course director. “The course is taught by professional economic developers with years of experience. They practice what they teach. So, not only is this a great learning opportunity, it is also a tremendous networking opportunity to get to know the leaders of the field.”

The NSEDC is accredited by the International Economic Development Council. Individuals who complete the course qualify for admission to the Economic Development Institute and the International Economic Development Council professional development series. The course is the first step toward qualifying to take the Certified Economic Developer examination.

The cost of the course is $600. To register, call the Office of Professional Development and Educational Outreach at 601.266.4186. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.usm.edu/profdev_edoutreach/NEWSOUTH.html
