University of Southern Miss Libraries will celebrate 75 years as a participant in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) with a reception Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. in the government document area of the second floor of Cook Library.  The event will include formal display of an anniversary plaque from the Government Printing Office marking the occasion.

Since 1813, depository libraries have safeguarded the public's right to know by collecting, organizing, maintaining, preserving and assisting users with information from the Federal Government. Beginning in 1935, the university joined this effort by housing federal documents and assisting patrons locating government data to ensure public access to government information on a wide variety of topics.
