Two icons of the civil rights movement in Hattiesburg will be the guest presenters for the first University Forum of the spring semester at The University of Southern Mississippi Thursday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Bennett Auditorium. Admission is free.

In conjunction with Black History Month, the Armstrong-Branch University Forum Honors Lecture was established in 1993 in honor of Raylawni Branch and Gwendolyn Elaine Armstrong Chamberlain, who integrated the university in September 1965. On Thursday, they will share their experiences as the first African American students at Southern Miss in a panel discussion format.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to the event, which will include a question and answer session. The program will be moderated by Austin Simmons, a senior from Mandeville, La. majoring in broadcast journalism and a student in the Southern Miss Honors College.

The University Forum series is presented by the Southern Miss Honors College each fall and spring semester. The Southern Miss Office of Minority Student Development is serving as a sponsor for Thursday's event. For more information, contact the Southern Miss Honors College at 601.266.4533.
