British Studies Interest Meeting, Presentation Scheduled for Jan. 27

University of Southern Mississippi students who would like to study in London this summer while also earning academic credit are invited to a British Studies interest meeting Thursday, Jan. 27 at 3:30 p.m. in the International Center, room 101.

Business students interested in the program are also invited to a presentation by international business consultant Andrew Wiltshire that day at 1 p.m. in Joseph Greene Hall, room 116.

The British Studies summer program is from June 30 – July 31 and includes six semester hours of classes, with three semester hours featuring lectures by noted British scholars, artists, business leaders and government officials, and field excursions and seminars led by American professors. The remaining three semester hours are supervised research. A wide range of classes in varying disciplines are offered.

At the interest meeting, students can meet the director, professors and former British Studies students to learn more about what to expect from the program and to sign up for the program online.  

In his presentation, Wiltshire will talk about his extensive business career working with employees from nearly 40 countries. A question and answer session panel will follow Wiltshire's presentation, which will include Wiltshire and Southern Miss professors Dave Duhon and Skip Hughes discussing how British Studies can develop students and their career 'internationally.”

Wiltshire holds an MBA in general management from the University of London. He followed a board level career in factory management and human resources to become a practice leader for an international management consultancy. His work includes business-to-business (B2B) strategic marketing research; business improvement; customer relationship survey design and implementation and employee learning, skills and talent development programs.

Wiltshire's client list includes Fortune 500 organizations and the World Bank, as well as national and regional government agencies. He has held visiting fellow positions at Cranfield University, England, and the Nankai University of Tianjin, China, and has lectured on international marketing for the Southern Miss British Studies program since 2002. He helped facilitate a conference in 2010 on intellectual copyright in Pontlevoy, France in conjunction with the Southern Miss Centennial and the 10^th session of the university's Abbey program.

Study Abroad Peer Advisors will be available at an information table through Thursday of this week in the Thad Cochran Center atrium providing information about the programs, while also visiting with students and professors in their classrooms.
