A total of 13 sports facilities will be recognized for their achievements in security as part of the 2011 National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition set for Aug. 2-4 in New Orleans.

The presentation of awards to these facilities will take place on the final day of the second annual conference, which is sponsored by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi.

“The reason for this new award is to allow professional leagues, NCAA member institutions and amateur organizations to honor outstanding safety and security achievements,” said NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani. “These achievements involve actions above normal operational activities whereby a safety or security issue may have been tackled.”

Marciani noted that each league or organization selects the criteria and makes the determination as to which facility will be recognized. Raytheon is serving as the official sponsor of the Facility Achievement Awards. Those being recognized include the following:

  • Ohio State University (NCAA)
  • Penn State University (NCAA)
  • Texas A&M University (NCAA)
  • PPL Park (Major League Soccer)
  • The Staples Center (NBA)
  • Gillette Stadium (NFL)
  • New Meadowlands Stadium (NFL)
  • Kraft Nabisco Championship (LPGA)
  • Wegmans Championship (LPGA)
  • Safeco Field (MLB)
  • Little League Baseball
  • Joe Louis Arena (NHL)
  • Daytona International Speedway (NASCAR)

More than 400 security professional and 56 vendor exhibits are expected for the national conference. NASCAR President Mike Helton is scheduled to deliver one of the keynote addresses on the opening day.
