Southern Miss to Offer Healthcare Information Sessions

The University of Southern Mississippi Office of Professional Development and Educational Outreach will be offering a pair of free healthcare career information sessions at noon and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 at the Hattiesburg WIN Job Center.

Each of the sessions will provide more information on the healthcare industry including the online training needed to start a career in medical transcription, medical coding and billing, pharmacy technology and medical administrative assistance.

According to a recent report by the United States Bureau of Labor and Statistics, healthcare is expected to generate 3.2 million jobs by 2018. The majority of these jobs will require less than four years of the traditional college education.

Popular Camp Invention Program Set for This Summer

The University of Southern Mississippi will offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention program this summer for children entering grades 1-6.

This exciting week of five fun-filled modules begins June 6 under the direction of Dr. Aimee K. Thomas, director of the Biological Sciences Learning Center at Southern Miss. The weeklong adventure immerses children in imaginative play that reinforces and supplements school-year learning in the subjects of science, technology, engineering, math, history and the arts.

Children will work together to seek innovative solutions to real-world problems and sharpen critical 21st century learning skills such as teamwork and creative problem solving as they rotate through five modules each day that disguise learning as fun.
