IMPACT Southern Miss Forum to Focus on Sustainable Communities

Creating sustainable communities will be the highlighted topic in the first of several upcoming IMPACT Southern Miss forums scheduled at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
On March 24, noted architect, planner and author Ellen Dunham-Jones will discuss a growing trend around Mississippi and the country to redevelop downtowns and under-performing commercial areas into livable, sustainable communities.
Dunham-Jones will present urban design strategies and policies for re-inhabiting, redeveloping and re-greening these properties based on the more than 80 successfully built examples documented in her co-authored book, Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Design Solutions for Redesigning Suburbs. The book will be available at the event as well as at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Southern Miss before and after event.
The forum is set for 5 p.m. at the Trent Lott National Center of Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship and is co-hosted with the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association (HHDA).
