The University of Southern Mississippi's Office of Professional Development and Educational Outreach will offer a series of training opportunities during the month of August.

Industrial Audiometry and Hearing Conservation Certification will be held Aug. 8-10 on the Southern Miss Hattiesburg Campus. This program is designed for safety directors and engineers, human resource and training directors, industrial nurses and other personnel responsible for compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) noise and hearing loss regulations. Participants will learn how to test hearing and establish hearing conservation programs in the workplace. The program is approved by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation. The fees are $650 for those seeking certification and $375 for recertification.

Mississippi Cosmetology Association Summer Continuing Education Seminar is set for Aug.13-15 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg. This annual seminar will cover the latest trends, styles and products in hair care. In addition, topics on skin and nail care will be covered. The seminar is open to MCA members, non-members and students. The seminar is state board-approved for 18 continuing education hours, six of which are for methods of teaching. The fees to attend are $180 for members, $200 for nonmembers and $190 for students.

World Famous External Customer Care is scheduled for Aug. 19, 8 a.m. to noon at the Lake Terrace Convention Center. This seminar is designed to give employees a unique perspective on how each of them contributes to the overall success of their organization and their own work environment. It provides insight into how individuals who work together contribute to the success of a business by providing the type of customer service that creates a customer dynasty. Employees see the value and benefits to each of them as well as the company and the customer. Ways to recognize needs of each customer, how to have fun at work, and how to interact with external customers to provide “world famous customer care” will be addressed. The fee is $85.

Creating an Empowering Work Environment will be held Aug. 19, 1 to 5 p.m. at the Lake Terrace Convention Center. This seminar will provide ways to get the best from employees. Attendees will learn to support empowerment by building a supportive work environment, adopting effective leadership practices and coaching risk-takers. Through this, teams will work together more effectively and efficiently as they respond to the organization's business needs, priorities and interests. A leadership Action Planner and Job Aid Card are included so participants can fine-tune their newly acquired skills back on the job. The fee is $110.
