Southern Miss Doctoral Student to Perform with The Mississippi Chorus

Fri, 12/16/2011 - 12:22pm | By: Perri Jackson

John White, a doctoral student at The University of Sothern Mississippi, will perform in Handel's Messiah with The Mississippi Chorus Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Miss. This will be White's first performance with The Mississippi Chorus and will be featured as a tenor soloist.

“I am very eager to hear and work with John, especially after I enjoyed a preview of his voice when he portrayed the Imperial Commissioner during the recent Mississippi Opera's original production of Madama Butterfly,” said Michael Hrvinak, artistic director for The Mississippi Chorus. “His voice is powerful and captivates the listener. On stage he displays a confident yet accessible presence, and I know he is going to make a genuine and beautiful offering on the evening of Dec.17.”

In addition to White and a chamber ensemble of instrumentalists, Mississippi native organist Paul Lee will join soprano Phyllis Lewis-Hale, mezzo-soprano Lester Senter and bass-baritone James Martin to present this story of the Advent and Nativity of Jesus.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $18 seniors and $5 students with valid student ID (student tickets available at the door ONLY).
