Southern Miss Provost Lyman to Return to Faculty

Dr. Robert Lyman has resigned from his position as provost at The University of Southern Mississippi, citing personal reasons, and will return to the faculty as a professor of psychology.

Effective immediately, Dr. Denis Wiesenburg will fill dual roles as vice president for research and provost through the end of the academic year.

"Bob Lyman has led the academic division ably through some very difficult times,” said University President Dr. Martha Saunders. “I respect his decision to step down and wish him the best in all future endeavors. He will be missed on my executive team."

Lyman had served as provost since 2008. Before coming to Southern Miss, he served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. Previously, Lyman held a variety of positions over 25 years at the University of Alabama, including as executive director of Brewer-Porch Children's Center, a children's mental health treatment, research and training program affiliated with the university's Department of Psychology.
