Forty-five University of Southern Mississippi students enrolled in the spring semester Introduction to Tourism course had an opportunity to see the inner workings of an industry leader during a Feb. 25 visit to the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear, Ala.

“We want to inspire our students to be the best in the business,” said Dr. Catherine Price, chair of the Department of Casino, Hospitality & Tourism Management at Southern Miss. “By introducing them to the caliber of executives responsible for being number one in an internationally recognized brand as the Marriott sends the message home.”

Among The Grand's many accolades are being ranked No. 1 in Marriott Hotels & Resorts; ranked No. 1 spa in Marriott Hotels & Resorts and ranked No. 1 by Conde Nast Traveler in the South for golf staff and service.

The Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa is managed by PCH Hotels & Resorts, Inc., an industry partner and active recruiter of Southern Miss students for internships and full-time employment.

“Attracting strong candidates is essential to sustaining our best-in-class status and maintaining a synergistic academic-industry partnership with Southern Miss is key to our recruitment successes,” said Peggy Wilson, corporate director of human resources.
