The University of Southern Mississippi, along with VISITHATTIESBURG™ and the Hattiesburg Convention and Tourism Commission, will host the 2012 Leadership Mississippi class for its final excursion on Nov. 15-16.

Leadership Mississippi is a longstanding program of the Mississippi Economic Council, bringing together 50 emerging business and community leaders from across the state for an intensive year of training and exposure to the challenges and opportunities facing Mississippi. As a part of the year- long training the class visits different Mississippi communities.

The focus of the two day Hattiesburg visit is “quality of life.” Class participants will hear from a variety of Hattiesburg leaders including Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree, Betsy Rowell of the Hattiesburg Downtown Association and others. The class will visit the Southern Miss Accelerator at the Garden Innovation & Commercialization Park and learn about the University's role in economic development. The class will also visit the historic Train Depot, the USO African-American Military Museum, Camp Shelby and the Hattiesburg Zoo.

On Friday Southern Miss will provide a meeting room for a morning work session at The Trent Lott Center and host the group for lunch at the South Stadium Touchdown Club, where class members will receive a briefing on Southern Miss from President Aubrey Lucas and Vice President for Student Affairs Joe Paul.

Dr. Skip Hughes, director of the School of Accountancy at Southern Miss, is among the 2012 Leadership Mississippi class participants.
