NCS4, SDM Magazine Announce Award for Innovation in Venue Security Design

Fri, 11/30/2012 - 12:11pm | By: Alison Crumpton, NCS4

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi and SDM Magazine announce the new “Golden Eagle Award” recognizing excellence in system integration, architecture, engineering and/or construction (A/E/C), specifically related to the safety and security of spectators, property and infrastructure of spectator event facilities.

The criteria for the Golden Eagle Award will consider the critical design and functionality elements that enable and promote the safety and security of all stakeholders in an efficient and effective manner. Applicants from leading systems integration, architecture, design, engineering and consulting firms are invited to submit case studies from successful projects which had safety and security front and center in planning and execution.

“A critical aspect of sports venue design is the forethought of the safety and security of all stakeholders including employees, fans and guests,” said Dr. Lou Marciani, executive director of NCS4. “The application of best practices and technology is a core element of successful security programs in our market. The Golden Eagle Award is a logical and exciting extension of our educational and recognition programs.”

A panel of judges will review all applications and choose the most compelling projects. Selected entries will have the opportunity to submit case studies during the Annual NCS4 Conference at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. July 16-18, 2013. The winning submission will be selected as the first Golden Eagle Award recipient at the awards luncheon, which will also take place during the conference.

All accepted submissions will be published and distributed at the annual NCS4 Conference, on the NCS4 website, www.ncs4.comand the industry leading website, www.sdmmag.com.

Laura Stepanek, editor of SDM magazine, said “It is a privilege to partner with NCS4 and be involved in this exciting award. Many SDM subscriber companies are involved in the sports market and their work on sports venues is most definitely innovative.”

Components of the submission process that applicants will provide and that judges will be considering include:

  • What problem or situation was presented to your organization to solve?
  • What was your solution, specifically related to design and technology?
  • Document that it has been successful, including an endorsement from the venue/customer
  • Submit a 600-word case study about the project
