Public Invited to South Mississippi Nature Quest Events

Ocean Springs, MS– Local residents and visitors can celebrate the beauty of South Mississippi by participating in Nature Quest, a new series of free outdoor events in some of the most amazing places on the Gulf Coast. The events are described in the calendar below. 

Make plans to explore the bayous, bays and beaches of our area. People of all ages are encouraged to get outside and learn more about the environment, investigate the plants and animals that live here, and enjoy active recreation such as ropes courses, hiking and kayaking.

National Estuaries Day

Gulf Coast Community College – Jackson County Campus Estuarine Education Center, Gautier, MS

Bioquest at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory

Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, Halstead Site, Ocean Springs, MS

Bioquest activities: collect and record the fish, plants, and large marine animals in our area.  Guided walking tours, kayaking and boat tours.

Healthy Parks, Healthy People: Let's Move Outside!

Gulf Islands National Seashore, Davis Bayou Unit

Ocean Springs, MS
A FREE community event that promotes education, health, family, fun and stewardship through outdoor recreation in public places. The festivities will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Tour beautiful Davis Bayou by boat or kayak on a newly designated blue way, participate in hiking, disc golf, zumba or team sports, and visit educational exhibits.

Bayou Bioquest

Pascagoula River Audubon Center

Moss Point, MS
This Bioquest event is designed to help document the biodiversity of the Pascagoula River by focusing on Bennett Bayou. Members of the public will find and document fishes, aquatic invertebrates, small mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, and plants.
