Southern Miss Gulf Park to Co-Sponsor Social Change Film Festival

The College of Arts and Letters at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus will partner with the Mississippi Center for Justice to co-sponsor the 2012 Social Change Film Festival and Institute Monday, Dec. 3 at the Fleming Educational Center on the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.
From 9 a.m. - 12 noon an interactive workshop will be led by TV industry professionals. Participants will learn about using film and video to recruit volunteers, engage the public and motivate opinion leaders to support social justice issues. The workshop will be led by festival organizer Cynthia Phillips, as well as Mark Alton Brown and Dee LaDuke, who recently completed eight seasons as consulting producers on the hit series, “Girlfriends.”
Beginning at 1:30 p.m. two films will be shown. “Arise,” a film that captures the portraits and stories of extraordinary women around the world who are coming together to heal the injustices against the earth, weaves together poetry, music, art and stunning scenery to create a hopeful and collective story that inspires us to work for the earth. Secondly, “Admissions,” a short feature starring Academy Award Nominee James Cromwell tells the transformational tale about what it takes to find lasting peace.
