DuBard School at Southern Miss to Hold Missing Links in Academics Seminar

The DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi will hold the Missing Links in Academics Seminar April 11-12, from 8:30 a.m.-3:45 p.m. at the DuBard School on the Hattiesburg campus.

This seminar is designed to provide speech-language pathologists, reading specialists and second through eighth grade teachers multisensory strategies to build advanced decoding skills, demonstrate ways of building reading fluency and explore reading comprehension strategies.

“There is something to take away from the seminar that meets the needs of all students, from syllable types for my struggling learners to affixes for my more advanced students,” said Sherrill Adamo, fourth grade teacher in the Petal School District and a previous attendee.

By the close of the two–day seminar, participants will have gained knowledge and skills they can immediately implement, such as multisensory techniques for teaching the National Reading Panel five areas of reading and utilizing syllable types and syllable division rules and morphemes as a way of increasing vocabulary knowledge.

The seminar is approved for 1.2 CEUs for educators and speech-language pathologists/audiologists (intermediate level and professional level). The cost to attend is $250 prior to March 20. The cost after March 20 is $275. Instructional materials and lunch are provided.
