A gift to the USM Foundation from Bernard Green, utilizing the Allstate Insurance Agency's matching gift program, will endow two new scholarships and honor his late father.

The Arthur Bernard Green Business Scholarship Endowment will provide scholarships for African-American students in the College of Business. The Reverend Arthur L. Green Memorial Scholarship Endowment was inspired by Green's late father of Kokomo, Miss. Rev. Green was involved in the community and served as an inspiration to many. The scholarship will be awarded to African-American freshmen from Marion, Walthall or Pike County.

“Earning an education teaches discipline and puts you in an environment that forces you to learn things you otherwise may not see,” said Green. “This sense of empowerment stretches your mental capacity, allowing you to cultivate the full potential that lies within. The gift of education was very important to my dad, and I am grateful for the opportunity to honor him.”

Green is a 1994 graduate of Southern Miss and was inducted into the Southern Miss Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 2012. He is the owner of Bernard Green Insurance Inc., an exclusive Allstate Insurance Agency in Hattiesburg, Miss. He is also the president and chief executive officer of A.B. Green & Associates Inc., a real estate investment and development firm, and is a retired major in the United States Army Reserve.
