The American Heart Association celebrated their 2013 Heart Walk t-shirt contest winners, top fundraisers and top sponsors on Friday during a luncheon at the Four Points Sheraton in Biloxi. Among those recognized were Dr. Frances Lucas, University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast vice president and campus executive officer, and Shanna Bordelon, secretary for the university's Gulf Coast College of Education and Psychology.

Lucas and Bordelon both served as co-chairs for this year's Southern Miss Gulf Coast Heart Walk team. During the luncheon, Lucas was recognized as a top fundraising walker by the American Heart Association and Bordelon was recognized as a top fundraising walker, as well as receiving the first place award for the Heart Walk t-shirt contest. The university's t-shirt design was created by University Communications designer Francesca Linthicum.

The Southern Miss Heart Walk team raised $4,454 and had 45 walkers for the event, which was held in September at Jones Park in Gulfport. The Heart Walk raised a total of $403,594 for the American Heart Association, which featured more than 1 million walkers who participated in nearly 350 events nationwide.
