The University of Southern Mississippi Film Program will sponsor a Master Class in Screenwriting course under the direction of renowned writer David Sheffield January 2-14 (including Saturdays) from 6-10 p.m. at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Miss.

The course is designed to introduce participants to the rigors of scripting film or television programs. Participants will learn to “pitch” program ideas, develop those ideas into detailed story outlines and then turn those outlines into screenplays in proper industry format.

Sheffield, a Southern Miss alumnus, began his career as a writer for “Saturday Night Live” where he contributed to many of Eddie Murphy's most famous sketches, including “Buckwheat” “Gumby” “Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood” and “James Brown's Hot Tub Party.” His movie credits – all shared with longtime writing partner Barry Blaustein – include “Coming to America,” “Boomerang” and “The Nutty Professor.”

The cost of the course is $300 and space is limited. To register call the Southern Miss Office of Professional Development and Educational Outreach at 601.266.4186 or visit: www.usm.edu/training
