The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies will hold a homeownership application fair on Tuesday, March. 25, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Metrocenter Mall at 1395 Metrocenter in Jackson.

Forgivable deferred loans based upon need are currently available to eligible borrowers purchasing homes within the City of Jackson through the HOME Partnership Investment program. Grant funds can be used for downpayment and closing cost assistance, with some funds possible for qualifying homebuyers for retrofitting, energy upgrades or home repairs.

The Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) has 40 homes for sale in neighborhoods across the city. The HOME program is funded by the City of Jackson and the NSP program is funded by the Mississippi Development Authority. More information about these programs will be available at the application fair.

Application fair attendees will learn about available downpayment assistance and can receive free expert advice from certified housing counselors. Information will be available on homebuyer education classes and potential local lenders will be onsite.
