Hub Dance Collective To Perform Aug. 22-23

To celebrate the beginning of the school year, Hub Dance Collective (HDC) will perform “Ground.Sound.Rebound.REMIXED.” August 22-23 at 7:30 p.m.  The performance will be held at the Theatre and Dance Building, Studio 115 on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi.  There is a $10 general admission fee and a student fee of $5.

“Ground.Sound.Rebound.” was performed during FestivalSouth this summer, but three fresh, new dances have been added and the performance is now “remixed.”  The concert will include an aerial dance duet performed on ropes, a quartet to rock songs and the vigorous, rigorous dancing for which the company is known.

Southern Miss Department of Dance faculty members Meredith Early, Kelly Ferris Lester, Elizabeth Lentz, Becca McArthur, and Stacy Reischman Fletcher formed the modern dance company with a goal to continue choreographing and performing professionally.

“HDC strives to bring professional modern dance to the Hattiesburg region and as part of this mission, we commissioned two new works by guest artists CoCo Loupe and Jenny Showalter,” said HDC co-founder Kelly Ferris Lester.

Lester says Loupe and Showalter are nationally recognized for their work.

“For this performance, company member Stacy Reischman Fletcher will present two new works inspired by her recent travels to London and exploration of the dance scene," Lester said. "These works, plus a guest solo by Southern Miss Dance alum Lauren Soutullo Smith, showcase the talents and broad reach of Hub Dance Collective.”

By bringing cutting edge performances of this nature to the Hub City, HDC hopes to change the artistic landscape of Mississippi with their performance by adding modern dance to the rich mix of cultural influences for which the state is famous.
