"Lighting the Way for the Holidays" will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m.

The University of Southern Mississippi will usher in the holiday season with the annual “Lighting the Way of the Holidays” and “Songfest” celebrations in early December.

“Lighting the Way for the Holidays” is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3 near the Lucas Administration Building on the south lawn of the Hattiesburg campus, while “Songfest” is set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1 at Reed Green Coliseum. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Student Government Association at Southern Miss sponsors “Lighting the Way” which features musical performances and the annual lighting of the giant Christmas tree in the front portion of campus. Holiday cookies and hot chocolate will be provided for those who attend.

Each year the Southern Miss SGA sponsors a local charity in conjunction with “Lighting the Way” festivities. This year organization is supporting Aldersgate Mission of Hattiesburg.

This marks the 63nd year that the Epsilon Delta chapter of Chi Omega has sponsored “Songfest” at Southern Miss. The event will include multiple chapters of Southern Miss Greek Life competing with songs and skits with holiday flare. The event also helps Chi Omega raise money for its national charity – The Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
