Student Health Services at The University of Southern Mississippi is hosting special day devoted to family fitness on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015.

The Family Fit Day event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Payne Center on the Hattiesburg campus for children in grades K-6 and their parents or guardians. The event is free but registration is limited to the first 100 children.

“Family Fit Day is a day for families to learn about nutrition and fitness and how it affects us individually, and as a family,” said Jodi Ryder, health education and promotion director for Student Health Services. “Parents and children will attend interactive sessions to teach them about exercise and healthy eating habits. This day will be filled with fun games for the whole family, healthy food, and great information to use at home.”

The event is part of the University's Health is Golden initiative made possible by the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation to educate and empower a health campus and community.

Attendees will receive free tickets to the Southern Miss women's basketball game against Texas-El Paso at 4 p.m. at Reed Green Coliseum on the same day.
