University of Southern Mississippi to Offer Online Classes for MBA Program

For the first time, the College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi will offer online courses in its acclaimed MBA program, beginning in January, 2015.

Two of the required MBA courses also will be offered at that time – MBA 610 (Analytical Decision Making) and MBA 620 (The Global Economy). These courses and two others will be available online in the hybrid format, which allows students to complete coursework online and in the classroom, for the Spring 2015 semester. Hybrid classes will be offered on the main campus in Hattiesburg and the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach.

Dr. Beth LaFleur, associate dean and MBA director, points out that the online option gives students an opportunity to choose the delivery format that suits their needs.

“Our MBA program has grown significantly, and our students have asked for the choice of online classes,” said LaFleur. “Some MBA students have geographical constraints, and others are so busy professionally that an online course will help them continue the program and complete the degree in a timely manner.”

LaFleur notes that the plan going forward calls for additional online MBA classes to be introduced each semester.

Earlier this year the Southern Miss MBA program was included among the nation's Top 200 part-time business programs in rankings for 2014 by U.S. News & World Report.

Currently, there are approximately 90 students enrolled in the MBA program. The program generally graduates 20-25 MBA students each year and most complete the degree in about two years.

“The Southern Miss MBA is a nationally competitive program that offers our students options to tailor courses to their needs,” said Dr. Faye Gilbert, dean of the College of Business at Southern Miss.
