C-SPAN's award-winning, 45-foot customized Bus will visit the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi on Thursday Nov. 5. The bus will be parked on West Memorial Drive, near the entrance to the R.C. Cook Union Building.

The C-SPAN Campaign 2016 Bus travels the country to promote C-SPAN's “Road to the White House” series by visiting universities, schools, and political events. Additionally, the Bus will introduce a customized 2016 campaign app allowing visitors to explore potential presidential candidates, events, and footage from the campaign trail.

This fall, as the Supreme Court convenes for its 2015 session, C-SPAN will debut a new 12-part history series, Landmark Cases: Historic Supreme Court Decisions. Produced in cooperation with the National Constitution Center, the series will explore the issues, people, and places involved in some of the most significant Supreme Court cases in our nation's history. During the series, the C-SPAN Bus will visit law schools throughout the country to talk to students about our new series.

Students and residents will step aboard the Bus to learn about the public affairs network's programs and resources, including its in-depth coverage of the U.S. Congress, White House, federal courts, and the American political process. Through interactive exhibits, students and educators will also learn about C-SPAN's Campaign 2016 coverage and its new history series, Landmark Cases: Historic Supreme Court Decisions.

Civics and government educators will learn about C-SPAN's free comprehensive online educational resources including C-SPAN.org, C-SPAN Classroom, and C-SPAN's nationwide documentary contest, StudentCam, open to students in grades 6-12.

In Hattiesburg, C-SPAN programming is provided by Comcast on channel 19 as a commercial-free public service, with C-SPAN2 on channel 104; and C-SPAN3 on channel 105. All funding for C-SPAN operations, including Bus visits, is provided by local TV providers.

“The C-SPAN Bus visit to Jackson highlights our strong partnership with C-SPAN,” said Ronnie Colvin, VP of government affairs. “Visitors to the Bus will learn about C-SPAN's extensive public affairs programming and ways to best utilize online resources such as the Video Library and Congressional Chronicle.”

Aboard the C-SPAN Bus, visitors will experience the following through interactive technology:

  • In-depth public affairs programming and educational resources
  • Touch-screen quizzes on C-SPAN and the three branches of government
  • Mobile devices demonstrating how C-SPAN is used on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and mobile apps
  • HD cameras and production equipment capable of producing public affairs programming aboard the Bus
