The University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Park campus in Long Beach is currently undergoing renovations that will, once complete, increase access to and from campus from Highway 90.

The current construction project includes the creation of a dedicated westbound turn lane from Beach Park Place along the east side of the Gulf Park campus onto Highway 90. The project also includes the construction of gateway signage designed to assist with campus way-finding and visibility from Highway 90. The turn lane construction will last approximately four weeks, with gateway construction occurring over the next 90 days, according to officials with the University's Physical Plant.

“We are pleased to be able to make these improvements to the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus,” said Dr. Steve Miller, Vice President for the Gulf Park campus. “The turn lane will have a positive impact on traffic flow between Highway 90 and Beach Park Place, and the new campus entryway will provide added visibility of our campus to prospective students and visitors to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

During the construction phase, the entrance to the Gulf Park campus from Highway 90 will be closed to auto and pedestrian traffic for approximately four weeks. During this time, access to the campus from Highway 90 (east and westbound) will be unavailable.

Members of the campus community and visitors are asked to make alternate plans to enter and exit the Gulf Park campus. To assist with campus access, construction signs labeled "USM Detour" are located along Highway 90. For more information about this project, contact the Southern Miss Physical Plant at 228.214.3235.
