Gulf Park Campus Honors Outstanding Students at 2015 Awards Day

In recognition of outstanding student achievement, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus recently hosted the 2015 Awards Day Ceremony in the Hardy Hall ballroom on the University's campus in Long Beach.

During the spring semester ceremony, University faculty and administrators recognized the 2014-2015 outstanding students in each of the six academic colleges, the students selected for Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and the Alliance for Equality, which was named Outstanding Student Organization. Members of both the Southern Connection Leadership Team and Student Government Association were recognized for their year of service to the university.

The following students were recognized by their academic college as exceptional students:

• College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Freshman – Shannon Allen of Long Beach, bachelor's degree in history

• College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Undergraduate Student – Melanie McLeod of Long Beach, bachelor's degree in English licensure

• College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Graduate Student – Cristina Tosto of Ocean Springs, master's degree in history

• College of Arts and Letters John E. Wallace Award in History – Erin Wallen of Ocean Springs, bachelor's degree in history

• College of Arts and Letters Susan M. Ross Communication Studies Award – Crystal Stinson of Biloxi, bachelor's degree in political science

• College of Business Outstanding Accounting Student – Lisa Hyatt of Pascagoula, bachelor's degree in accounting and information systems

• College of Business Outstanding Business Administration Student – Brett Burdine of D'Iberville, bachelor's degree in business administration

• College of Business Outstanding Management Student – Scheila Davis of Biloxi, bachelor's degree in business administration

• College of Business Outstanding Marketing Student – Julianne Ruckman of Biloxi, bachelor's degree in marketing

• College of Business Outstanding Tourism Management Student – Rachel Cropper of Gulfport, bachelor's degree in tourism

• College of Business Outstanding Graduate Student – Helen Yankovich of Saucier, master's degree in business administration

• College of Education and Psychology Outstanding Child and Family Studies Student – Atalie Sexton of Biloxi, bachelor's degree in curriculum, instruction and special education
