The School of Kinesiology at The University of Southern Mississippi welcomes a new senior secretary to its staff and Student Success Center.

Dale Hill of Hattiesburg has been with Southern Miss since 2004. She started as senior secretary in the School of Construction and most recently was an administrative specialist for Southern Miss Career Services.

“I wanted to return to an area I love the most and that is working with students in the academic area,” said Hill. “I enjoy working with both faculty and students and want to be helpful in any way I can.”

As senior secretary, Hill is mainly responsible for entering course schedules in SOAR, maintaining student records, communicating with adjunct instructors, running queries, processing site agreements with internship agencies and a number of other tasks.

Dr. Nancy Speed, assistant director for student success, said Hill is the first person students will encounter when visiting the Student Success Center. “She has expressed a love for working in an academic department and helping students,” said Speed. “As we work toward increasing centralized advisement through the Student Success Center, Ms. Dale will be critical for organizing, scheduling and assisting in that effort.”

The School of Kinesiology's Student Success Center provides information regarding degree plans, advisement and academic success. The Academic Skills in Kinesiology (ASK) Tutoring Center is located in the Student Success Center and offers free peer-to-peer tutoring. A computer lab with printing service is available for student use. It is the mission of the Student Success Center to assist students in meeting their academic goals.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Hill to the Kinesiology family,” said Dr. Scott Piland, professor and director of the School of Kinesiology. “Not only does she bring a wealth of practical experience to the office, she also possesses a wonderful passion to see students succeed. I believe this provides a perfect combination to meet our needs in the School of Kinesiology.”
