During the week of April 13-17, Cook Library at The University of Southern Mississippi will celebrate National Library Week with a full schedule of events. National Library Week aims to bring attention to the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.
“The purpose of participating in this national event is to bring attention to the services and events we have going here at Cook Library,” said Dawn Smith, publicity and outreach for University Libraries. “We have some great events scheduled for the week that include our annual book sale, an edible book festival and a day for students to expunge their library fines. We will also be highlighting our different departments so that the campus can see the people behind our services.”
The theme for National Library Week is Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.
