Southern Miss to Host Annual Economic Outlook Forum on Feb. 19

Economic trends and forecasts will take center stage during the Economic Outlook 2015 Forum set for Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Thad Cochran Center on The University of Southern Mississippi's Hattiesburg campus.

Hosted by the Southern Miss College of Business and the Trent Lott National Center for Excellence in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, the event will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The First Bank of Hattiesburg is serving as the title sponsor. The event is free but seating will be limited.

“The Economic Outlook Forum is an annual event designed to bring together leaders from both the public and private sectors of our economy to discuss economic trends occurring in our nation, state and local communities,” said Shannon Campbell, executive director of the Trent Lott Center. “Our guest speakers possess expertise in job growth, business climate, and public policy trends. We appreciate their willingness to share insights and outlooks for 2015 and beyond.”

Scheduled speakers include the following:

  • Dr. Paula Tkac, vice president and senior economist, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
  • Dr. Darrin Webb, senior economist, State of Mississippi
  • Dr. Manfred Dix, economist, State of Louisiana
  • Dr. Semoon Chang, economist, Gulf Coast Center for Impact Studies

“The collaboration between the Trent Lott National Center, The First and the College of Business provides a means for the Pine Belt to explore the economic outlook for our region,” said Dr. Faye Gilbert, dean of the College of Business at Southern Miss. “For me, it is always one of the best of times when faculty, staff, students and our community members gather together to learn.”
