Southern Miss Set to Hold Annual Lets SAAC Hunger Canned Food Drive

The Southern Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold its annual “Let's SAAC Hunger” food drive from Nov. 12-22.

Each C-USA school works within its respective community to conduct a campus-wide canned food drive for at least one week during the fall semester. C-USA also partners with YouGiveGoods, a for-profit company that facilitates online food drives. This partnership allows C-USA student-athletes to reach a much larger audience. All student groups and alumni are encouraged to participate. Each institution selected a local food bank to receive its donations. Last year, the Conference USA membership collected a league-wide 62,618.76 pounds, which equates to nearly 53,000 meals.

All canned goods that are donated at Southern Miss will directly benefit our local community. Immediately after weigh-in, distribution will begin at Christian Services (301 East 2nd St.; 601-582-5683) in Hattiesburg. Christian Services is a member agency of the United Way of Southeast Mississippi.

Canned items will be accepted from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., weekdays from Nov. 12-22, at the Duff Athletic Center. In addition, fans that provide five canned items at the Nov. 12 volleyball game against UTSA (6 p.m.), the Nov. 13 women's basketball game against Alabama State (11 a.m.) and the Nov. 17 men's basketball against Jackson State (7 p.m.) will receive a voucher for free admission for that particular home event.

On those days, canned items will be accepted at Reed Green Coliseum from 5:30-7 p.m., on Nov. 12, 10:30 a.m., until 12 noon on Nov. 13 and 6:30-8 p.m., on Nov. 17. Fans can also donate canned items at the final Golden Eagle regular-season home football game against Old Dominion, Nov. 21, from 1-4 p.m.

Fans can also make donations here to “Let's SAAC Hunger.”
