Student Arrested on Sexual Battery Charge

A University of Southern Mississippi student was arrested Friday, Dec. 11 in connection with an incident reported to have occurred at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house on the Hattiesburg campus.

Edward Anthony Rahaim, 20, a junior from Hattiesburg, is charged with one count of sexual battery and is currently being held in the Forrest County Regional Jail. He has been placed on interim suspension by the Southern Miss Dean of Students Office, and will remain on interim suspension until the completion of the student conduct process.

The incident was reported to University Police by members of the fraternity Friday, according to University Police Chief Bob Hopkins. Hopkins said the matter remains under investigation, and commended those who promptly reported it to UPD.
