Southern Miss Launches Profiles of Successful Students

What can you do with a degree from The University of Southern Mississippi? Great things according to the string of student successes achieved by its graduates. That is why the Office of Online Learning has launched a new video series profiling successful students.

“Southern Miss produces top graduates doing incredible things all over the world,” said interim director of the Office of Online Learning, Dr. Tom Hutchinson. “We are spotlighting students in our programs to demonstrate how completing a degree at Southern Miss can help anyone succeed in their personal and professional goals.”

The video series will feature personalized stories showing what a Southern Miss degree can do for students. “Our graduates are at the forefront of exceptional organizations across the country,” said Hutchinson. “The success of our students is a great testament to the quality education students receive at our university.”

The first video features a student from the University's prestigious MBA program, Katherine Miller. Born in Lafayette, La., Miller grew up in the greater New Orleans area as one of three children of Ron and Maggie Miller, who now live in Madisonville, La.

Now a successful event planner at the SMG Mercedes-Benz Superdome/Smoothie King Center at Champions Square in New Orleans, Miller says she would tell future students the MBA program at Southern Miss is a great investment in yourself. “I knew it would be a platform on which I could launch my professional career,” she said. “Experience means a lot, but my MBA sets me apart.”  

Miller says graduate school is intimidating and is hard work, but not impossible. “When you think it is terrifying and overwhelming, know that you are capable and Southern Miss has your back,” said Miller. “I was never alone in my journey and neither is any Golden Eagle.”
