Victoria Brodbeck, a banking and finance major in the College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been awarded the 2016 Mississippi Young Bankers (MYB) Leadership Scholarship. She is the fifth USM student to win the $2,000 scholarship in the past six years.

Each year the MYB committee, a sector of the Mississippi Bankers Association, presents a scholarship to an outstanding student majoring in banking and finance. The MYB Leadership Scholarship is given to a junior banking and finance major at a state-supported university. Applicants must be nominated by their banking professor.

“I was overjoyed to learn that I had won the Mississippi Young Bankers Leadership Scholarship,” said Brodbeck. “I felt honored to win the award, and it has taken a huge burden off me.”

Brodbeck, a Fairhope, Ala., native, leads an active life outside the USM classroom. She works as a lending intern at PriorityOne Bank, serves as a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of the Pine Belt, and plays the harp at weddings, receptions and other special events across the state.

Brodbeck graduated from Madison Central High School in Madison, Miss. She is the daughter of Anne McLeod and John Brodbeck.

The Mississippi Young Bankers Leadership Scholarship has been awarded since 1998. The mission is to not only give students monetary recognition, but also encourage them to pursue banking careers in Mississippi. For more information visit www.msbankers.com
