Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures to Celebrate Program Milestone

Fri, 12/15/2017 - 11:36am

The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures is planning to host a celebration during the fall 2018 semester to mark the 25th anniversary of its Master of Arts in the Teaching of Languages (MATL) program. Dr. Katie Angus, an assistant professor of French, is in the process of locating program graduates to invite them to the event.

“We're having a birthday. I'm reaching out to alumni to invite them all to our party. I also want to learn more about them and what they're doing with their degree,” Angus said. To help the department contact its MATL graduates, Angus created a brief survey for MATL alumni that can be completed at http://tinyurl.com/MATLoutreach.

The MATL's curriculum is geared toward current or future teachers. Students in the MATL program can choose from three emphases: French, Spanish and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Since the MATL is available in a fully online format, students around the world are able to maintain their careers while completing their degree. Assistantships are available for students who complete the program on campus. The program also offers study abroad opportunities in Spain and France.
