The University of Southern Mississippi will host Health and Fitness Week Sept. 25-29 on the University's Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Organized by the Fitness Center on the Gulf Park campus, Health and Fitness Week offers students, faculty and staff a weeklong schedule of programming designed to renew one's mind, body and spirit. Throughout the week, participants are provided with a variety of opportunities that will motivate them to make healthier choices and live a healthier lifestyle.

According to Southern Miss student and Health is Golden Champion Paul Theile, those seeking to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle should strive for at least 30 minutes a day of exercise for five days a week. To him, this regimen helps out with overall mental well-being, physicality of the body, and gives a sense of accomplishment when dealing with a period of physical stress.

“For me, it helps get my mind right for the rest of my day. Eating right also is a big key to staying in shape,” said Theile. “We just have to remember that whatever we let come into our body needs to help out our body through our day as well. Good healthy nutrients go a long way.”
