Dr. Jeffrey Parr

The School of Kinesiology at The University of Southern Mississippi welcomes a new athletic training faculty member.

Dr. Jeffrey Parr served as a visiting instructor during the 2016-17 academic year. After a national search, Parr is joining the faculty as interim program director of athletic training.

“I am thrilled to welcome someone of Dr. Parr's caliber to our team,” said Dr. Scott Piland, director of the School of Kinesiology. “The School is dedicated to providing excellent educational experiences and learning environments to our students. Dr. Parr's expertise will help us accomplish this.”

Parr earned a bachelor's degree in movement studies and exercise science with an athletic training emphasis from East Stroudsburg University in 1999, a master's degree in athletic training from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2000, and a doctorate in health and human performance with a sports medicine specialization from the University of Florida in 2010.

Parr's research interests include identifying and mitigating risk factors for musculoskeletal injuries among an active population. He aims to incorporate the use of biological and psychological risk factors as a method of determining injury risk and severity.

“The School of Kinesiology offers a diverse group of faculty who have been extremely successful in research and teaching,” said Parr, assistant professor of athletic training. “I hope to add my footprint to the School's research agenda, as well as prepare students to pursue health care professions.”
