Southern Miss to Host Pre-Law Week Sept. 11-14

Students who wish to pursue a legal career will have the opportunity to meet with law school representatives and legal professionals during Pre-Law Week at The University of Southern Mississippi. Hosted by the Department of Political Science, International Development and International Affairs, Pre-Law Week will be held Sept. 11-14 on the Hattiesburg campus and Gulf Park campus of Southern Miss.
“For the past three years, our department has sponsored Pre-Law Week which includes programming to help students think about whether or not a legal career might be for them and help prepare them to consider academic paths that can help get them there,” said Dr. Edward Sayre, chair of the Department of Political Science, International Development and International Affairs. “It involves four days of programming which includes a practice LSAT, tips for getting into law school and a chance to meet law school recruiters from throughout the southeast.”
Specific events during Pre-Law Week include:

“We believe that having the opportunity to speak with local attorneys and law school representatives, as well as taking the practice LSAT and learning about Pre-Law curricula at Southern Miss, provides a unique service to our undergraduate students,” Sayre said.
This year, law schools of the University of Georgia, Tulane University, University
of Mississippi and Mississippi College, among others, will be in attendance.
Dr. Eric Tribunella, senior associate dean in the College of Arts and Letters, said
Pre-Law Week is specifically designed for the many students and prospective students
interested in pursuing a career in a legal field, either as practicing attorneys or
as paralegals. “Pre-Law week provides essential information to start planning a path
to success and discover how a major in legal studies, political science, philosophy,
history, English and others can prepare students for careers in law,” Tribunella said.
