Sun, 10/08/2017 - 01:17pm

University of Southern Mississippi officials have completed initial assessments of all locations following Hurricane Nate. The worst of the storm bypassed most University sites, with minimal impact to the Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses. No damage has been reported for Stennis Space Center operations. Minor damage, power outages and road flooding have been reported at both Gulf Coast Research Laboratory locations in Ocean Springs.

USM has issued an all-clear for the Hattiesburg campus. On-campus residents may end sheltering in place and are permitted to exit residential buildings, but are encouraged to proceed with caution.

The University's Hattiesburg operations will reopen at 5 p.m. today as scheduled for normal operating hours. Students, faculty and staff should note that The Fresh Food Company will be the only dining facility available on Sunday evening, with all other Aramark food services locations scheduled to open at normal operating hours on Monday, Oct. 9.

Regularly scheduled classes and operations on the Hattiesburg campus will proceed as usual on Monday. Students who may be unable to travel due to hurricane impacts in other parts of the state should contact their professors regarding class attendance.

Returning faculty and staff who identify any facility concerns that could be storm related should contact appropriate Physical Plant personnel for their respective campuses.

The University's coastal operations at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs and Stennis Space Center in Hancock County are expected to resume as scheduled at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Non-essential employees are advised to refrain from coming to either of these sites until an official all-clear message is issued.
