USM Professor's Work on Display at Prestigious London Exhibition

John Mark Lawler discovered the joy of “making something out of nothing” as a young boy helping his father with projects in his woodshop.

Lawler, an assistant professor in The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Art and Design, is teaching an art photography class in London this summer in the university's British Studies Program, where he's also taking stock of how far he's come from the creative exploits of his youth in that woodshop to sharing his artistic passion with students while also seeing his digital collage piece “Compassion” on display as part of the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition.

Industry Leaders Under 40 to Receive Recognition during National Sports Security Conference

Five sports security professionals under the age of 40 will be recognized for their leadership in addressing safety and security issues as part of the 2018 National Sports Safety and Security Conference & Exhibition on July 9-12 in Louisville, KY. This year's theme is Enhancing Situational Awareness in the Sports Safety and Security Industry. More than 400 security professionals and 60 vendor exhibits are expected for the national conference.

Photo and/or Video Opportunities
The Summer Gifted Studies Program is being held this week on the Hattiesburg campus. The program, designed for students in grades 4-8, is sponsored by the Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies. Program participants are housed on campus for the week. The program features a number of instructional activities that will be conducted in classrooms and laboratories on the campus.
