USM to Offer Demonstration of New Eagle Maker Hub Instrument

WHEN: 9-10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018

WHERE: Hub building, Room 109 on USM's Hattiesburg campus

SPECIFICS: Digital fabrication tools have become increasingly available to the average consumer interested in designing prototypes for medical, education, engineering, and more. Dr. Anna Wan, Assistant Professor of Secondary Mathematics at The University of Southern Mississippi, has created Southern Miss's first publicly available makerspace -- Eagle Maker Hub. Dr. Wan has set aside time on Wednesday, Oct. 17 for members of the media to see how some of the tools in Eagle Maker Hub work. The demonstration will include the fabrication of a selected item. Among the more sophisticated items already produced by Eagle Maker, are a Bluetooth-enabled 3D print-enhanced fiber optic wedding dress, a dog wheelchair, prosthetic hand and various robots.

Fresh Food's Gloria Peterson to serve as Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal

Gloria Peterson, an associate with Aramark's Eagle Dining and Fresh Food Company, has been chosen to serve as grand marshal of this year's homecoming parade, which is set to roll beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 east down Hardy Street from the Midtown Shopping Center to the main entrance of campus.

A debate between The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Speech and Debate Team and the British National Debate Team will take place Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. in the International Center (IC), room 101 on the Hattiesburg campus. This event is free and open to the public. The proposition to be debated is "Resolved: This House would prefer a world with open borders."
