USM Student to Graduate with State's First Child Advocacy Studies Minor

When Chrishasta Gardner walks across the stage Friday, Dec. 7 to receive her bachelor of social work degree from The University of Southern Mississippi, there are two things she is sure of. She will be the first graduate in Mississippi to earn a minor in child advocacy studies. And her eyes will not be dry.

Gardner's gratitude is 21 years in the making, her journey that of a “non-traditional” student who was in the right place at the right time to earn her unique distinction in regard to the new minor, which became available in the 2017-18 academic year.
