Tue, 09/04/2018 - 07:08pm | By: Jenny Tate

All University of Southern Mississippi operations along the Gulf Coast and in Hattiesburg will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 5, as a result of predicted severe weather from Tropical Storm Gordon. All Wednesday day and night classes will not meet, and faculty and staff, with the exception of essential personnel, are not expected to report to work. After an initial assessment is completed early Wednesday morning, additional personnel may be contacted by their supervisors to report to work and assist with addressing potential storm damage. Normal operations are expected to resume as scheduled on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Students who live on the Hattiesburg campus are advised to remain indoors during the storm and to proceed with extreme caution when foot or vehicular travel is necessary. Motorists are reminded to use caution during times of heavy rain and not enter flooded areas. Please review the list of areas on our campuses that are prone to flooding and travel with caution.

The Fresh Food Company will remain open until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5. All other Aramark food service operations are expected to resume normal hours on Thursday.

University officials remain in contact with local emergency management agencies on the Gulf Coast and in Hattiesburg and will continue monitoring weather conditions surrounding this system. The University community is also encouraged to continue to closely monitor local media outlets for updated information as the storm approaches.
