University of Southern Mississippi business students Nishu Gupta and John (Trey) Haire will be representing the USM Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter at the 2018 Beta Gamma Sigma Global Leadership Summit in Chicago, Ill. later this November.

The summit is a premier annual event where hundreds of the highest achieving students from the top five percent of business schools around the world will gather for a unique learning experience. This year, the event will focus on “Innovative Leadership.”

Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is a business honorary that recognizes academic excellence in business studies only at schools that are AACSB accredited (Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business).

“I am excited that Trey and Nishu will have the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills among some of the most talented business students in the world. Our students always contribute greatly while at the Global Leadership Summit and engage in valuable learning experiences that they can use throughout their careers", said Wanda Fennell, the faculty adviser for Beta Gamma Sigma. Fennell has been advising our BGS chapter for 10 years. Dr. Melinda McLelland is also a faculty adviser for the chapter.

Gupta is enrolled in the MPA graduate program at USM. She currently holds the position as Vice President of Finance for BGS and the Treasurer for Beta Alpha Psi. She is a graduate assistant for the School of Accountancy and the MPA program representative on the Business Student Advisory Council. Upon graduation in May, she plans to obtain a position as a CPA.

"I am thankful for Dean (Faye) Gilbert and Ms. Wanda Fennell, as they helped make this trip happen,” said Gupta. “I am excited about this year's Global Summit and look forward to meeting with great, innovative minds, both established leaders and students, from different parts of the world. I hope to make new, long-lasting connections.”

Haire is an undergraduate finance major who currently serves as Vice President of Membership for BGS. In addition, he is an Honors College ambassador and an active member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity where he serves as Treasurer.

"I am excited to attend the Global Leadership Summit to grow as an individual and learn to be a more effective member of a team. I have also never been to Chicago, I look forward to visiting a new place," said Haire.
