Delta Gamma Earns Awards at Biennial Convention

Members of the Delta Pi chapter of Delta Gamma sorority at Southern Miss celebrate awards earned at the organization's 68th Biennial Convention, held recently in Phoenix.

The Delta Pi chapter of Delta Gamma sorority at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) took home four major awards from Delta Gamma's 68th Biennial Convention, held recently in Phoenix. Criteria for the awards includes excellence in programming, retention, recruitment, and financial stability.

The honors include:

Fraternity–wide awards:

*Outstanding Chapter Award- Division II
*Barbara Griswold Laederach Recruitment Award – Runner-up

Regional Awards:

*Region 3 Outstanding Collegiate Chapter Award
*Region 3 Excellence in Programming Innovation Award

Megan Duke, a senior accounting major from Creola, Ala. who is chapter president for the sorority, credits adherence to the organization's motto – “Do Good” – for its success.   

“I thank each and every chapter officer, advisor, and member who contributed to such a successful biennium,” Duke said. “It was an honor to represent my sisters and the USM College Panhellenic Community this past week. These empowering women make me so proud to call myself a Greek woman."

Dr. Kimberly Ward, an alumna of the Delta Pi chapter at USM and an assistant professor in the university's Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, serves as Regional Collegiate Specialist for Region 3 for Delta Gamma Fraternity. Dr. Ward has also served as advisory team chairman for the Delta Pi chapter.

Founded in 1873, Delta Gamma has 152 collegiate chapters and more than 200 alumnae chapters. More than 250,000 women having been initiated into the sorority. The Delta Pi chapter of Delta Gamma sorority at USM was founded in 1973.
