The world famous Dixie Darlings date back to 1954.

The University of Southern Mississippi welcomes the Dixie Darlings for Homecoming, Friday, Oct. 19 through game day, Saturday, Oct. 20 at The Rock. Dixie Darling alumnae rehearse and perform with the current Dixie Darlings and The Pride of Mississippi for the Homecoming halftime show.

This unique event is an important part of homecoming tradition as it includes many generations of Dixie Darlings performing once more at The Rock. Over 64 years of Dixie Darlings will be represented.

“USM Homecoming for the Dixie Darlings is very special. It allows those who were in this organization to visit with old friends and make new ones,” said Director of the Dixie Darlings Tracy Smith. “We take the field with so many talented ladies who love the Dixie Darlings and USM. It is a long-standing tradition of excellence.”

The world-famous Dixie Darlings, created in 1954 under USM's fourth president Dr. Robert Cecil Cook, have represented the spirit and tradition of Southern Miss since their inception. In 2004 for the Dixie Darlings' 50th Anniversary, over 250 Dixie Darlings performed for the Homecoming Halftime with the youngest being only 17 and the oldest being 71.
