The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Music presents the Saxophone Chamber Orchestra Concert on Wednesday, Nov. 7 This free performance is set for 7:30 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

The performance will include an arrangement of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring for saxophone ensemble and percussion, conducted by DMA student Michael Flynn.

“I have the honor to work with such incredible musicians,” said DMA student and Music Director Jeff Humphrey. “Every challenge I present to them is met with maturity, musicality, and positivity.”

“It's a wonderful opportunity and honor to work with the fantastic musicians of the Sax Chamber Orchestra,” said DMA student Michael Flynn. “The ensemble does justice to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring by keeping the characteristics of the original and allowing them to come through easily in this transcription.”

The Saxophone Chamber Orchestra consists of all the saxophone family members: soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, and bass. Mimicking the human voices for choir, this type of ensemble is world-renowned as a wonderful expression of artistry.
