The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Art & Design program presents its Senior Show in Sculpture starting on Nov. 27 and running until Dec. 7 in the Gallery of Art and Design. An opening reception to this free event will be held on Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.

This exhibition features the BFA Senior Capstone projects by two sculpture majors, Jessica Ehret and Logan Smith.

Jessica Ehret, from Sumrall, Miss., creates life-size figurative sculptures cast in concrete and plaster. These works are collaged internally with a colorful array of three-dimensional objects; personal things from childhood, home, and college life that are imbued with meaning and mystery.

“They tell an untold story,” said Ehret. “They are capsules of myself, my family, people I know and strangers, preserving memories of the past while evoking aspirations for the future.”

A senior from Brookhaven, Miss., Smith creates narrative sculptures inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, as well as a variety of fictional novels, movies, and video games.

“I create works that are surreal and monstrous,” said Smith. “They explore ideas of evolution, horror, fear, and the depths of the human psyche.”

The Gallery of Art and Design is located in the George Hurst Building, 104 Southern Miss Dr. on the Hattiesburg campus.
