Employers looking for advice on starting an internship program or hoping to improve upon an existing one will have an opportunity to gain insight into both by attending a Total Internship Management Workshop set for Aug. 22 at The University of Southern Mississippi's Hattiesburg campus.

The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship. The event is being sponsored by USM, the Area Development Partnership, the Mississippi Society of Human Resource Management and the Center for Pathway Experiences at USM.

“The Total Internship Management Workshop helps organizations of all sizes build successful internship programs or improve existing programs,” said Lisa Stevens, director of the USM Center for Pathway Experiences. “Attendees will gain a wealth of internship information and resources as well as get the chance to network with other individuals from employers in the area. The interactive workshop will be time well spent.

The comprehensive, highly interactive and participatory workshop will show attendees how to:

  • Effectively implement an impactful internship program
  • Utilize software to manage your intern project and programs
  • Identify future hires through a non-strings-attached 12-week interview
  • Create and maintain a pipeline of highly qualified and educated full-time job candidates
  • Increase your organization's brand awareness on university and college campuses

Dr. Robert Shindell, President and CEO of Intern Bridge, one of the nation's leading research and consulting firms, will be the featured speaker. Shindell has spent two decades in the career services and hiring space. He is the principal investigator of the National Internship & Co-op Study, and one of the most sought-after speakers and thought leaders in the country on internship management, entry-level hiring, and collegiate career services effectiveness.

The Center for Pathway Experiences was created in Fall 2016 as a part of the University's Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), Eagles Engaged: Enhancing Gateway and Pathway Experiences for the reaffirmation for accreditation for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
