USM Presents Classic Musical Cabaret Nov. 8-11

The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) proudly presents the acclaimed musical “Cabaret” November 8-11 at Tatum Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus. Performances are set for Nov. 8, 9, and 10 at 7:30 p.m. as well as Nov. 10 and 11 at 2 p.m.
This Tony Award-winning musical classic is for mature audiences, and is presented in part by the generous support of Partners for the Arts.
Based on the book by Joe Masteroff, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, “Cabaret” is about the burlesque performers from the infamous Kit Kat Klub, where patrons go to escape and leave their troubles behind as the Nazis begin their rise to power in the 1930s.
“Although the show is set in1930s Berlin, the production is contemporary and extremely relevant,” said Louis Rackoff, Director of ‘Cabaret' and Theatre professor. “The way the characters deal with the rise of tyranny has timeless meaning; they seek to survive for the future.”
The production features some of the most memorable songs in theatre history, including “Cabaret,” “Willkommen” and “Maybe This Time.”
Performer and graduate student Mel Angelo said, “Our Cabaret is a story about real people, in a real time, standing up for their lives,” Angelo added “This performance is the high point of my acting career at USM.”
